About Miracle Day
Each year, on the first Wednesday in December, CIBC World Markets employees and clients participate in a major effort to raise awareness for charities whose mission or programming is to support underserved, at-risk or in-need youth. This campaign is known as CIBC World Markets Miracle Day. This year, Miracle Day is on Wednesday, December 5, 2007.
On Miracle Day an amount equal to 100% of our net commissions (less expenses) from trades made through CIBC World Markets will be donated to charities nominated by employees and clients and approved by the Miracle Day Committee.
In 2006, Miracle Day generated $7.8 million in grants to over 350 charities, bringing our seven-year aggregate to over $72 million in giving. This impact would not be possible without the generosity of our clients.
How It All Began
CIBC World Markets Miracle Day started in Canada in 1984 and was conceived by Timothy Miller, a manager in Toronto for Wood Gundy, which was acquired by CIBC in 1988. The program's goal was to raise money for children's charities during the holiday season. That first CIBC World Markets Miracle Day raised $123,891. Since then, CIBC World Markets Miracle Day has raised over $100 million for children's charities and has become an annual tradition in our offices around the world - all through the simple belief that, working together, we can make a difference in the lives of children.
CIBC World Markets Miracle Day is more than a one-day event - planning is continuous, and proceeds benefit children year-round. And it's more than a financial commitment. It's a unique, three-way partnership between CIBC World Markets, our clients, and the children's charities that are important to all of us.
