Miracle Makers

The Miracle Maker Award recognizes individuals in our communities who have made extraordinary efforts on behalf of children's charities and programs. A tradition since 1995, these outstanding individuals are honoured by participating CIBC World Markets and CIBC Wood Gundy offices across Canada.

Doug Gilmour

Doug GilmourDoug Gilmour is a Stanley Cup winner, a former captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs and represented Canada in international competition multiple times throughout his lengthy hockey career.

Throughout his 20 seasons in the NHL, the St. Louis Blues, the Calgary Flames, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the New Jersey Devils, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Buffalo Sabres and the Montreal Canadians all benefited from his leadership, talent, and tenacity.

In 1,474 regular-season NHL games, Doug scored 450 goals and added 964 assists for a total of 1,414 points. As a player, Doug inspired and amazed fans with his passion and intensity.

Doug has applied this same passion to his work with some of Canada’s most vulnerable children.

Bringing corporate sponsors, sports celebrities and media together, Doug has hosted multiple fundraising initiatives that have helped make a difference in the lives of seriously-ill children and their families. Hosting celebrity fundraising events for The Easter Seal Society of Ontario and Ronald McDonald House Charities are just a few examples of his dedication and commitment.

Doug has been known to say, "if it’s for the kids, I’m there." He’s also "been there" for many others including Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children, Children’s Wish Foundation, Big Sisters of Toronto, the Ontario Special Olympics and Covenant House.
