Donation Guidelines
The CIBC World Markets Children's Foundation is dedicated to helping prepare Canadian children at risk or in need for future success through donations to improve their health, education and well-being. This is the guiding principle behind all donation decisions and commitments.
The CIBC World Markets Children's Foundation works to lend support to
- Registered charities that are well
administered, with a record of achievement or potential for
success in line with our overall goals.
- Programs that provide a tangible benefit to Canadian children at risk or in need, and the communities where they live.
The Foundation gives priority to organizations that:
- CIBC World Markets and/or CIBC Wood Gundy
employees are actively involved with and are of relevance to the
communities in which CIBC World Markets and CIBC Wood Gundy
operate.
- Help improve the health, education and
well-being of children at risk or in need.
- Promote learning and skill development of children at risk or in need.
What kind of requests would be excluded from consideration?
The following categories of requests would not be considered for Foundation funding:
- Donations to individuals, political or
advocacy groups, private schools, pre-schools, elementary and high
schools.
- Donations to groups whose operating areas
are outside of Canada.
- Endowments, funds given permanently to a
foundation so it may produce its own income for grant-making
purposes.
- Multi-year projects or commitments.
- National and Regional corporate campaign
beneficiaries (ie: United Way/Centraide)
- Religious organisations (except for
secular activities open to those of all faiths, such as operating
a shelter or a group program).
- Conferences, golf tournaments, dinners,
advertising and/or marketing/rebranding ventures and other events
that are non-tax receiptable.
- Charitable groups that are not registered
with and approved by the Canada Revenue Agency.
- Charitable groups that are supported by
CIBC
- The Foundation does not participate in large capital campaigns.
What is the process for requesting a donation?
To ensure that we have all the information necessary to give full consideration to a proposal, the following should be included with any donation request:
- A group's charitable registration number
with the Canada Revenue Agency.
- A statement of the organization's
structure, mandate and goals (including information about those
who benefit, plans, activities and programs).
- The most recent audited financial
statement.
- Names and outside affiliations of the
governing board of directors and officers and any CIBC World
Markets or CIBC Wood Gundy employee involvement.
- Details and time frame of the project.
- A statement of the sources of funding
from government, other corporate and private donors.
- Previous CIBC World Markets Children's
Foundation support.
- A recognition plan for donors.
ALL REQUESTS MUST BE IN WRITING
How often are donation requests reviewed?
- Proposals are reviewed approximately once
a month and it may take up to or more than 60 days before a
decision is made.
- Donation requests are reviewed between
the months of February and September each year. Requests that are
sent in outside of our granting period will be held over until the
next granting year begins.
- The Foundation does not make multi-year
commitments.
- Donation requests are reviewed each year. Every organization (even those that have been involved with the Foundation in previous years) must re-submit information annually to the Foundation for consideration.
